The summer transfer window in European men’s soccer has ended. There are still deadline-day deals in the English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A, Germany’s Bundesliga, France’s Ligue 1 and others. Most business is completed.
Even though there was no interest from a club in the Champions League, that didn’t stop him from staying at Manchester United.
A source told Yahoo Sports that the club was blocking any deals and holding Christian against his wishes.
On deadline day, it was the biggest change. Marcos Alonso was sent back to Spain after the London club agreed to a deal with Barcelona for Pierre-Emerick Aubameska. Then, with just a few hours remaining in the window, Denis Zakaria was reportedly swooped for by the Blues on a season-long loan.
According to reports, Villa’s asking price was too high for the club to meet, so it tried to negotiate with other clubs.
Other American players sorted out their futures too. On Wednesday, he signed for Dutch side Groningen from Augsburg. AC Milan swooped in to rescue Sergio Dest from Barcelona, after the 21-year-old refused to sign a contract with Villarreal. Dest signed with the titleholders on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
John was going to sign for Mallorca at the 11th hour, but changed his mind and signed for Benfica.
All of the latest news will be tracked by Yahoo Sports as the details emerge.
